If we truly forget who we are and make some decisions without considering what's most important in life, we may need to revisit the following article.
"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity." Colossians 3:12-14
There are few opportunities to make friends or meet new people. Amid daily obligations and chores, we forget to deepen bonds with new beings.
Perhaps at times we even start to develop a strange obsession with pleasing others. There's nothing wrong with wanting to please others, but when we set aside our beliefs or convictions just to make friends, we should sound an alarm.
It doesn't matter what other people think of you. If we try to act according to other people's expectations to gain their approval, we will encounter uncertain versions of our own self.
If we follow the Lord's path, serving Him with gratitude in our daily work and making decisions to glorify Him, the opinions of others will no longer matter.
"Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me." John 12:25-26
What kind of friendships are we cultivating by trying to please others?
The image one projects should be natural, not that of a person willing to give up their essence for a friend.
Interestingly, no one can take us seriously or respect us as individuals if our convictions suddenly vanish at the prospect of making a new friend.
The importance of leading by example, of the fundamental acts over words. Let's not forget that others will respect and follow us more for the strength with which we uphold and defend our convictions and beliefs, than for the content of those beliefs themselves.
All the positive words others may give you will not come close to the wonderful experience of being honored by the Lord. Even when serving Christ with gratitude, you will see how those positive opinions will come in abundance as part of that great blessing that is receiving God's honor in our lives.
