When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah his sores, then Ephraim turned to Assyria, and sent to the great king for help. But he is not able to cure you, not able to heal your sores. For I will be like a lion to Ephraim, like a great lion to Judah. I will tear them to pieces and go away; I will carry them off, with no one to rescue them. Then I will return to my lair until they have borne their guilt and seek my face— in their misery they will earnestly seek me.

Reflection

Adding Sweetness to Every Decision

This morning, while I was waiting for traffic to normalize on my way to my office, I was meditating on all the things we spend our time on. I personally believe that, in this day and age, we need to look at our priorities. Where do we invest our time and energies? What things or who occupies our thoughts? It is important to remember, first of all, to think about what it means to seek something. The word denotes a strong desire and a constant search to have it. Likewise, seeking the Lord is not about having a fleeting and occasional encounter with Him, but striving to the utmost to know Him more intimately and to follow Him more closely. Those who unreservedly seek this kind of communion with God are determined to spend time with Him; they also want to abandon everything that might be an obstacle to growing in their relationship with the Lord. Life in Christ must be a constant search. Those who seek Him soon discover that knowing Him is the greatest reward of all.
