A Light in the Infinite Firmament
My childhood was spent in the countryside. I spent most of my time outdoors helping my father raise animals and sometimes he even let me drive the old rickety tractor. It was a lonely life. The nearest neighbor was about a kilometer away. I enjoyed the weekends very much as we would go to town to our church and to stock up on supplies. There we would socialize with our brethren in the Faith and catch up on the latest agricultural news. I fondly remember how we would greet our neighbors in the evening. My father would go out late at night and shine his flashlight into the darkness. After a while we would see a flickering beam of light in the distance. It was our neighbor beckoning to us. It was our way of telling each other that we were okay, that we were there for any vicissitude, that we were not alone. Today, remembering those years and drawing a parallel, I realize that it doesn't matter the intensity of the light. It always illuminates the darkness. Therefore, when we feel that our inner light is not strong enough to illuminate our path or that of our brothers and sisters, we must know that our light is the light of Christ that does not and will never be extinguished. Even if we are alone, let us not cease to shine. The glory of God's marvelous work is there for us to show and enjoy.
